Employment

Hiring

Champions hires customer service “Associates”, primarily current high school students or recent college graduates, to operate the retail store at 53 Leonard Street, Belmont MA 02478. Employees must be at least entering their sophomore year in high school to be eligible for employment. We give priority whenever possible to students attending Belmont High School who play or have played Belmont youth sports , as their expertise with local sports is an asset when helping our customers.

Compensation

All associates begin at the minimum wage mandated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts ($15/hr as of July 2026). Pay then increases with seniority as follows:

  • After 100 hours worked, pay increases to $16/hr

  • After 300 hours worked, pay increases to $17/hr

  • After 600 hours worked, pay increases to $18/hr

  • After 1000 hours worked, pay increases to $19/hr

Payroll is processed every two weeks on Wednesdays for the previous two weeks (weeks are Monday through Sunday).

Scheduling

At Champions we reward the employees who work the most with more opportunities to work and greater choice in selecting the shifts that they work. This improves our customer experience by staffing with the most experienced workers whenever possible.

Recurring shifts

Every month on the 15th day of the month, we create a schedule of recurring shifts for the upcoming month (for example, on July 15th we will create a schedule for August 1st through August 31st including Monday through Friday afternoons and weekend days). We use a scheduling tool called Evolia to do this. These shifts will be made available first to the current active employee with the most seniority (defined by total hours worked). This employee will be given up to 24 hours to select the shifts that they are most interested in working in the subsequent month, making sure to specify which 2 shifts are their top priority. Up to 2 shifts will be assigned before moving on to the next individual in seniority order. This limit of 2 serves to make sure that there are at least some opportunities for most employees to take recurring shifts. Once we have offered shifts to all current active employees, any unfilled shifts still remaining will be granted in seniority order.

Replacements

When an associate cannot work a shift that they are assigned to, they should put that shift up for “replacement” as soon as possible in our scheduling tool, Evolia. These replacement shifts go to the first person to express interest on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of seniority. This gives even the newest employees lots of opportunities to work shifts as they come up.
